60 Minutes ran a piece the other night on the aging San Francisco Bay Bridge and how the highly traveled route could present a disastrous outcome should a large earthquake occur.  The race is on to construct new portions before the next big earthquake.
Steve Heminger, Executive Director of the Metropolitan Transportation Commission, was interviewed for their story.  He’s at the helm of the massively expensive and time-consuming project.
Mr. Heminger is noteworthy for the Public Policy Program because he spoke at our annual Lake Arrowhead Symposium in 2009.  His presentation, The Prospects for Fundamental Changes to Transportation Finance in the Obama Administrationcan be found here.
The bridge is expected to be completed in 2013.
